Long before it became a beloved retreat villa, it began with two people who fell in love with the island, the sea, and the idea of creating a life shaped by intention, beauty, and freedom.

Dawn first came to Isla Mujeres in 1994, instantly captivated by its warmth, charm, and timeless turquoise waters. Tom followed in 2002 and felt the same pull — the unmistakable sense of home you can’t explain, only feel.

For years, they returned again and again, dreaming of one day becoming part of the island’s story.

In 2010, they sailed their 48’ ketch, Santorini, 5,000 miles from California through the Panama Canal — a journey that taught them courage, resilience, and the power of following a calling. When they sailed into Isla Mujeres harbor in 2011, it wasn’t just landfall… it was an emotional homecoming.

By 2017, they sold nearly everything — cars, furniture, belongings — and moved full-time to the island to create a life they didn’t need a vacation from.

Castillito soon became the heart of that vision.
